HIGHLIGHTS OF THE HISTORY OF QUAKER ROAD CHURCH



1842- The organization of the First Methodist Protest Church of Hartland

1843- a wooden church was built at cost of $1,000.

1872- The first church building burned to the ground.

1873-The present church building of brick was built at the cost of $2500 and was
dedicated.

1877- The parsonage was built on a lot adjoining the church lot, costing $1,000.A new
organ was bought and installed during pastorate of Rev. L. J. Hill.

1912-1915- Rev. P. O. Wildey was pastor much needed school rooms were added to the church building.

1926-The church was incorporated.

1939- The church
officially became the Quaker Road Methodist Church, with the uniting of the Methodist Episcopal;
Methodist Episcopal South; Methodist protestant Churches, to form the Methodist Church.

1942-Centennial Celebrations May 24, 1942

1950's- A new dining room and restrooms were built, a parking lot was made; electrical fixtures, improvements to the kitchen, outside bulletin board, an electric cross for the front exterior, were added.

1952- Parsonage was sold to Mr. and Mrs. John Peterson, after being rented for a number of years.

1970-The church became the Quaker Road United Methodist Church,
uniting of the Evangelical United Brethren
and the Methodist denominations.


1975- January closed church due to dwindling membership.

1975-June- Priscilla Wolfe open the church again with a few supporting memberships.


1973- The Centennial of the erection of the present church structure.

1978- Dedication of the bell which was originally located in the Orangeport Church that burned.

1983- Construction of double capacity for classrooms and social events, costing 40,000.
The observing of the 140 th anniversary of the church.

1992- cement parking lot built in memory of Mike and Sue Snell. Purchased 1.7 acres for play ground.

2002- Record number of new membership joined the church, during pastorate of
Rev. Rick Heitzenrater.

2020- Quaker Road informs the district of its wish to leave the United Methodist.

2023- The Church votes to disaffiliate from the United Methodist in the presence of the
district superintendent. The vote is unanimous to leave the UMC.

2023- June anual conference, The conferance votes to approve Quaker Road Church In its
bid to dissaffliate from the UMC.

2023- The Church becomes incorperated as Quaker Road Church.
